Chapter Eleven

Alessio

There is someone working with our enemies, reporting our deliveries just in time for them to be apprehended by the authorities and confiscated. Because we don’t leave any trace that ties us directly to them, the merchandise is unclaimed. It takes more time, but we do get our things back through legal channels and the proper officials. So, I’d done what Dario wanted and had gone for the long drive to the warehouse to check in on the situation.

It was perfect timing because I stumbled in on one of the foremen in the middle of taking some kickbacks to screw us over. He’d been offloading our trucks for a hefty profit. So I called in our team to deal with the mess I made, and then headed back to check in with Dario and then my little sweet-smelling rose.

When I return from the trip to the warehouse, Dario is pacing a hole in his office floor, running his fingers through his hair. “Did you know her sister studied criminal law?” he asks me.

“No, but what does that have to do with us?” I wasn’t worried when he left with her that he’d harm her or was interested in my woman, but I was worried that she’d crush on him even harder.

“You don’t see a problem with the maid having a sister actively pursuing the right side of the law?” he asks.

“Fair point, but June’s not.”

“Yes, Ms. June Beaman isn’t. Although they didn’t do a thorough background check when they sent her in. It could have been an oversight; unless it was to get her killed.” No, it was me that hired her without even considering anything other than wanting her around me.

“What? Why?”

“Her father worked for the CPD.”

“Dario…honestly, I fucking picked her because the thought of her being away from me more hours than necessary was too much to deal with. I doubt she has any interest in our life, and I’d stake my life on that.”

He stops pacing and grins. “Good, I just wanted you to fucking admit it. As much as it all points to someone setting us up, I get that you’re fucking sprung on her. Don’t worry. I won’t touch your precious June. Although if you’re going to make her yours, you might do it soon. I have moves to make and if your relationship is well cemented, then it will benefit me.” A hint of a smile appears on his face, and I wonder what’s brewing in that head of his.

“What do you mean my relationship will benefit you?”

“I’ll explain it later. For now, get me all the information you can about the maid’s landlord. I want to know everything he does, including where he eats, sleeps, shits, and who he fucks.” It’s not my place to question his interest in her landlord directly, but I can’t fight the burn in my gut at his interest nonetheless.

“Okay.” I raise my brows but don’t say anything else.

I’m up and out of his office before I can question him about his talk with June.
